The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution has notified several offices where over 80% of staff now possess working knowledge of Hindi, in line with the Official Language (Use for Official Purposes of the Union) Rules, 1976.

Significantly, the notification covers multiple branches of the National Consumer Cooperative Federation of India Ltd. (NCCF) across the country, underscoring the increasing role of cooperatives in promoting Hindi in official communication. The branches identified include Delhi, Lucknow, Dehradun, Chandigarh, Bangalore, Jaipur, Kanpur, Bhopal, and Guwahati.

Apart from NCCF units, the notification also lists Bureau of Indian Standards’ Jammu office, several National Test House centers, and Regional Reference Standard Laboratories in cities including Varanasi, Jaipur, Guwahati, and Ahmedabad.

With this move, the government has reinforced its commitment to strengthening the use of Hindi across cooperative institutions and technical bodies under the Consumer Affairs Department.
