The Bihar government has decided that government funds will also be deposited in cooperative banks, a move aimed at strengthening the cooperative banking system in the state. The decision was conveyed by Chief Secretary Pratyay Amrit during a review meeting of the State Cooperative Development Committee held on Thursday.

During the meeting, the Chief Secretary directed officials to prepare a concrete action plan for setting up cooperative sugar mills at Sakri and Raiyam. He also conducted a detailed review of key initiatives, including computerisation of PACS, establishment of multi-purpose PACS in panchayats and villages, formation of dairy and fisheries cooperative societies, creation of new Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), setting up of Jan Aushadhi Kendras, and development of a comprehensive cooperative database.

Pratyay Amrit further instructed officials to provide micro-ATM facilities in PACS, ensure effective implementation of the decentralised foodgrain storage scheme, and complete registration of all cooperative societies.

Progress on Aadhaar-based payment systems in cooperative banks was also reviewed. Senior officials from various departments were present at the meeting.
