Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen (Retd) K.T. Parnaik on Tuesday discussed measures to strengthen the cooperative movement in the state during a meeting with Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah in the national capital.

During the interaction, the Governor highlighted various initiatives being undertaken by the state government to promote cooperatives as instruments of inclusive growth, livelihood generation and rural prosperity. He emphasized the significant role that cooperative institutions can play in improving the socio-economic conditions of people, particularly in rural and remote areas of Arunachal Pradesh.

Parnaik underlined the vast potential of cooperatives in empowering farmers, women, Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and rural entrepreneurs. He said a vibrant cooperative ecosystem could contribute substantially to increasing incomes, generating employment opportunities and strengthening local economies.

The Governor noted that cooperatives can serve as effective platforms for collective enterprise, enabling members to access credit, markets, inputs and other essential services. Such institutions, he said, are crucial for fostering self-reliant village economies and ensuring sustainable rural development.

The discussions also focused on expanding the reach of cooperative societies and enhancing their contribution to the state’s development agenda. Parnaik stressed that strengthening the cooperative sector would support the broader objective of inclusive and people-centric growth in Arunachal Pradesh.

The meeting reflects the growing emphasis being placed on the cooperative model as a key driver of economic empowerment and grassroots development across the country.
