The election to the new Board of Directors of the Goa State Cooperative Bank was held on Sunday, with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant also exercising his franchise.
Of the 13 Board seats, four candidates were elected unopposed, while the fate of the remaining nine now lies sealed in the ballot. Counting of votes is scheduled for August 19.
A total of around 450 votes were cast across different categories, including PACS, consumer societies, salary earners (north and south), dairy, and others.
After casting his vote, the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant posted on his official Facebook page, reiterating the significance of the cooperative movement. “Bina Sahakar, Nahi Uddhar,” he wrote, adding, “Cooperatives play a vital role in empowering communities, fostering self-reliance, and driving inclusive development. Let us strengthen the cooperative movement for a Swayampurna and Atmanirbhar Goa.”
