District Magistrate of Gir Somanath has fined Rs 57 crore to Govindpara Jungle Kamdar Sahkari Mandali Limited (GJKSML), a cooperative society based in Kajlali village, reports The Indian Express.
GJKSML, a cooperative body is accused of mining in areas which were not leased to it. The media report says it mined 16.36 lakh mt of limestone without authorisation.
The society has moved the Gujarat High Court (HC) against the proceedings by the collector, and the HC is likely to hear the matter on August 5.
