Dr P S Gahlaut, Managing Director of Indian Potash Limited, has welcomed key agriculture-focused announcements in the Union Budget 2026–27, terming them timely and forward-looking. He said that to boost crop production, India must significantly enhance farm mechanisation and adopt modern farming practices.
Dr Gahlaut particularly praised the proposed establishment of Bharat-VISTAAR, a multilingual AI-enabled platform integrating AgriStack portals and ICAR’s agricultural practice packages. He noted that the initiative is expected to accelerate the adoption of precision farming technologies across regions and crops, enabling farmers to make informed decisions and optimise the use of water, fertilisers and agro-chemicals, thereby improving yield and nutrition.
He also lauded the Credit-Linked Subsidy Programme for the animal husbandry sector, stating that the creation of integrated livestock value chains and Farmer Producer Organisations would empower rural livestock owners and generate sustainable employment opportunities.
