The Gujarat High Court has issued notices to the state government and concerned authorities on a writ petition questioning whether a foreign national can be a member of a cooperative sugar factory and its managing committee, media reports say.
Justice Aniruddha P. Mayee directed the Cooperation Department secretary, Director of Sugar and Gandevi Cooperative Sugar Industry Ltd to respond.
The petition challenges the managing committee membership of Ranjitbhai Nathubhai Patel, alleging he is a US citizen, not listed on electoral rolls, and therefore ineligible. The matter awaits further hearing.
