According to a Hindu news report, nine directors of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi Districts Cooperative Fish Marketing Federation have been disqualified for their involvement in financial irregularities under section 29c of cooperative societies Act 1959.
The federation has a total of 18 elected members including nominated members. As majority of them are disqualified, the federation would lack quorum.
Meanwhile, Deputy Registrar of Cooperatives of Udupi district has been appointed as a special officer of the federation for three months as per the order.
The special officer will function as per the directions of the Registrar, under Cooperative Societies Act during this period.
The BJP leaders in Udupi have dubbed the move politically motivated and resolved to challenge the order in court.
