As the domestic fertilizer production is not enough to meet the local needs, the Union Government has decided to import urea through Krishak Bharati Cooperative (KRIBHCO) that manufactures fertilizer, mainly urea, a news outlet reports.
Apart from the problem of underweight, the unprecedented rise in the prices of fertilisers prices has rattled farmers’ cage.
The manually packed bags weigh invariably contain less than the quantity printed on the bags and farmers complain that if they pay for 50 kg they get only 48 kg.
KRIBHCO recently imported 42,360 tonnes of urea from Sultanate of Oman through the Tuticorin port and the bulk cargo is being packed in the 50 kg bags manually and sent for sale mainly through primary agriculture cooperative societies.
Meanwhile, KRIBHCO has said all possible measures will soon be taken to ensure the correct weight of every bag given to farmers.
