The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced that its offices in Mumbai City and Mumbai Suburban districts will remain closed on Monday, September 8, 2025, on account of Eid-e-Milad.
This follows the Government of Maharashtra’s notification dated September 3, 2025, which rescheduled the public holiday from Friday, September 5, 2025, to Monday, September 8, 2025, under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881.
The change was made to accommodate community celebrations, as September 6 coincides with Anant Chaturdashi. To ensure communal harmony, Muslim organizations decided to hold Eid-e-Milad processions on September 8.
Accordingly, the previously declared public holiday on September 5, 2025 (Friday) stands cancelled for Mumbai, and government offices, banks, and the RBI in Mumbai City and Suburban districts will now observe the holiday on September 8, 2025 (Monday).
For districts outside Mumbai and Mumbai Suburban, however, the public holiday for Eid-e-Milad will continue to be observed on September 5, 2025.
