Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah emphasized that cooperators should prioritize helping others and establishing new Primary Agriculture Credit Societies (PACS) in 2 lakh panchayats, rather than fearing the loss of power in their respective cooperatives.

“If you lose in the cooperative election, no one can save you. Even the existing PACS members can replace you. However, there is a need to change this mindset and form new PACS,” said Shah while addressing co-operators in Gujarat on Saturday.

He further mentioned, “Out of 65,000 functional PACS in the country, 48,000 have implemented some of the initiatives launched by the Union Ministry of Cooperation.”

Shah also stated, “The Central Government has created model bylaws for PACS, and despite PACS being a state subject, every state from Kashmir to Kanyakumari and Assam to Dwarka has adopted these model bylaws.”

The Union Ministry of Cooperation urged the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) and all State Cooperative Banks across the country to ensure that every PACS and other cooperative institutions open their accounts in the District Cooperative Bank or State Cooperative Bank. This move aims to strengthen the cooperative sector, increase capital, and boost confidence.
