Deputy registrar finds out fake co-ops in Nagpur

Times of India reports deputy registrar of cooperative societies has cancelled registration of 1,792 cooperative societies in the Nagpur district in Maharashtra.

The deputy registrar has acted at the instruction from the state government. There are over 3,000 cooperative societies registered to run cooperative banks and industries.

A survey done by the cooperative dept. has revealed that scores of the societies were not found at the registered address. Some were operational only on paper and a few had closed down.

Registration of 1,080 societies was cancelled a few days ago and a couple of days ago, registration of 712 more societies was cancelled.

Sources say cancellation of registration of more cooperative societies is likely in the next days.
