Demo blues: Pawar bats for DCCBs

Former union agriculture minister and NCP Supremo Sharad Pawar has urged District central cooperative banks (DCCBs) in Maharashtra to knock on the door of the Supreme Court as all their efforts to get rid of demonetized currency notes have been unsuccessful, reports HT.

It is worth mentioning that the central government and the RBI have yet to permit them to exchange their old notes.

Addressing a press conference recently in Mumbai, Pawar said DCCBs’ compromised financial background across states including Maharashtra will have adverse consequences for the rural economy.

The former union agriculture minister wondered why the central government is singling out DCCBs for punishment.  DCCBs in Maharashtra hold an amount of Rs. 112 crore in old nullified notes.
