The Delhi government will roll out rooftop solar panels under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, starting with cooperative group housing and dairy societies.
In coordination with the Union Cooperation Ministry, officials will select one housing and one dairy cooperative in the first phase. Societies with adequate rooftop space are being shortlisted.
Despite earlier efforts, solar adoption in Delhi has been slow. To incentivize uptake, Delhi now offers an added subsidy of Rs 30,000 over the Centre’s Rs 78,000, totaling Rs 1.08 lakh for a 3 kW system.
