Defaulting farmers: Punjab govt restrains co-op banks

Considering farmer bodies threatening agitation if any defaulting farmer was arrested Punjab finance minister Harpal Singh Cheema asked cooperative banks not to issue arrest warrants against any farmer for non-payment of loans, media reports say.

Cheema said all warrants have been withdrawn and no farmer will be arrested.

The minister also said a new policy would soon be put in place so as to make agriculture profitable.
