DC Udhampur pushes Co-op Revival, Focus on Local Products

Minga Sherpa, Deputy Commissioner of Udhampur, chaired a meeting of the District Cooperative Development Committee Udhampur to strengthen the cooperative movement and expand its grassroots outreach across the district.

During the meeting, the DC emphasized the need for strong inter-departmental coordination to ensure effective implementation of cooperative initiatives.

He called for intensified awareness campaigns to increase public participation and improve the reach of cooperative institutions in rural areas.

Sherpa highlighted the potential of promoting local products such as garlic, guchi (wild mushrooms), and jaggery through cooperatives, stressing the importance of building robust market linkages to enhance farmers’ income and ensure better price realization.

He also directed officials to revive inactive cooperative societies and explore new avenues such as petrol pump operations and the promotion of handmade products under the cooperative framework.
