Mumbai District Cooperative Bank Chairman and MLC Pravin Darekar submitted the ‘Cooperative Housing Societies Self-Redevelopment – Cluster Self-Redevelopment Study Committee Report’ (Darekar Committee Report) to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis during a meeting held on Monday at Vidhan Bhavan.
The report’s recommendations will now be forwarded to the Housing, Cooperation, and Urban Development Departments for their evaluation. Based on their inputs, a proposal will be placed before the Cabinet, followed by Government Resolutions on the approved points. A progress report is expected to be tabled during the upcoming Winter Session of the Assembly.
The report is expected to fast-track pending housing redevelopment projects while safeguarding the interests of residents. Since the launch of the self-redevelopment policy in 2019, 18 out of 19 key demands have already been fulfilled. To address emerging challenges and evolving needs, the study committee was formed in April 2025 and has provided clear and practical recommendations.
A proposal for financial assistance through the National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) has been submitted to Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah. This initiative aims to help thousands of Mumbai families realize their dream of owning a better, modern home.
