Cyberattack on Mercantile Co-op bank in Kerala

PTI quoting police reports says Mercantile Cooperative bank in Kerala had a ‘ransomware’ cyberattack, suspected to be from overseas.

A police source confirmed that the main server of the bank’s computer was affected by the virus.

The warning on the affected computer screen says the files have been encrypted and if they are to be retrieved, ransom in the form of bitcoin has to be remitted, police said.

Local cooperators are worried about the unusual rise in such crimes.
