Chairing a technical session on “Youth in Cooperatives: Future Leadership & Innovation” during the CoopKumbh 2025 on Tuesday, Central Registrar of Cooperative Societies Rabindra Agarwal underlined the urgent need to involve more young people in the cooperative movement to ensure its long-term vitality and innovation.
Agarwal observed that while India enjoys a vast demographic dividend, it remains underutilized in the cooperative sector. “We are not encouraging youth participation in cooperatives as much as we can. The energy, ideas, and technological understanding of young people can greatly strengthen the cooperative ecosystem,” he noted.
Highlighting the interdependent nature of cooperatives, he said that bringing youth into the sector would inject dynamism, creativity, and entrepreneurship. Agarwal emphasized that there are more than 30 different sectors where cooperatives operate, offering immense entrepreneurial potential for the younger generation.
Referring to the National Cooperative Policy unveiled by Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah, Agarwal mentioned that the proposed Cooperative University is a key initiative aimed at bridging the knowledge gap among youth about the cooperative model.
“If we provide opportunities and education to our youth, they will start thinking about cooperatives as a viable path for entrepreneurship and social impact,” he said, urging stakeholders to work collectively to attract and empower young leaders in the cooperative movement.
Agarwal concluded by saying, “The future of cooperatives lies in the hands of our youth- we must give them the chance to take this movement to greater heights.”

Cooperative Housing societies are being promoting large scale corruption by concerned authorities, pathetically!
