CPM demands IT exemption from co-ops

Even the Communist Party of India (Marxist) Kerala has joined in the chorus of condemnation of the central govt. for weakening the cooperative banks through imposing income tax on their business, says Hindu.

A Polit Bureau member of the party says every govt. at the center has been deaf to the plea by the cooperative sector  to do away with the tax burden.

Sources say the general view is the tax burden will create difficulties for cooperative banks in Kerala and efforts to strengthen the cooperative sector will be to no avail.
