COBI to elect new Board today; Amin set to be re-elected

Cooperative Banks of India (COBI) is going to elect a new Board of 21 members today on Tuesday. The filing of nominations and scrutiny are going on simultaneously at the NCUI headquarters where the electoral process is underway.

NCUI Campus also happens to be the headquarters of COBI. V K Dubey, NCCE Director is the Election Officer. Five years ago, in 2013 Amin had replaced Vishwanathan as COBI’s Chairman.

According to sources, several new faces may make it to the Board this time, though in all likelihood the outgoing Chairman GH Amin is going to be re-elected. Besides being the Vice President of NCUI, Amin is the Chairman of Gujarat State Cooperative Federation.

Talking to Indian Cooperative on phone Mr Amin said that COBI is a prestigious cooperative organization which represents UCBs, cooperative banks of the states, Land Mortgage banks and other national federations.

Amin, however desisted from predicting the results in advance. Amin said “wait till evening; I would myself give you all the details”.

Though started with an ambitious plan, COBI has largely failed to achieve its goals, mostly due to the apathy of political powers, rue its directors.
