Co-ops expanding medicine access in rural areas
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The Pharmaceuticals & Medical Devices Bureau of India (PMBJP) has teamed up with the cooperative sector to open Jan Aushadhi Kendras (JAKs) in rural areas through Primary Agriculture Cooperative Societies (PACS). As of November 30, 2024, over 2,690 PACS have received initial approval, with 687 Kendras operational.

Launched under the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP), JAKs are being opened through applications from various organizations, ensuring a 1 km distance between Kendras. These Kendras aim to provide affordable medicines to remote regions, with applications available online at www.janaushadhi.gov.in.

JAK owners receive incentives, including a 20% monthly purchase reward (up to Rs. 20,000) and a one-time Rs. 2 lakh incentive for locations in special areas. The initiative also supports North-Eastern states, women entrepreneurs, and disadvantaged groups. Operational support is provided by state Marketing Officers.
