Co-op society hires out agri tools for a rent

In the AGM concluded last month IFFCO MD Dr U S Awasthi had asked the delegates to acquire modern agri tools for both self use as well as for hiring them out. And now media reports say a cooperative society in Karnataka has begun hiring out agricultural implements to petty farmers for a paltry rent of Rs. 10 a day.

The implements hired out by Idkidu Seva Sahakari Sangha in Bantwal talukha are pikkasu, plastic butti and other small agricultural implements without any deposit.

However, the two-tyre push cart costs Rs. 40 a day. The cooperative society has branches at Kula, Kabaka, Soorya and Mittur.

The cooperative has invested about Rs. 25,000 in this business and the implements are hired by at least 10-15 farmers per day.

Tilted “IFFCO to venture into agriculture machinery” the story read “in the 45th AGM the Managing Director of IFFCO Dr U S Awasthi announced that IFFCO would venture into the business of agricultural equipment as the prices being charged from the farmers in the market are a complete rip-off.”
