Co-op should be empowering a la Amul; Sanghani quotes Shah

The Union Cooperation Minister talked very lucidly about the power of co-ops by giving an example of Amul on the occasion of 89th General Council meeting of the NCDC in New Delhi on Monday, says NCUI President Dileep Sanghani soon after the meeting.

While on his way to the airport for catching a flight for Gujarat, Sanghani said “Amitbhai said that 36 lakh women of Amul have not given more than Rs 100 as share capital to build what is known as Amul today. That is the power of co-ops and it has magical results when a large number of people with small capital join it”, added Sanghani quoting Shah.

Quoting Shah further, Sanghani said that there are about 60 crore people out there for co-ops to grab and suck them into the co-op system. They have bank accounts and small capitals and they can be co-op soldiers in the nation-building”, said Sanghani.

“These are the people who have recently been uplifted from basic poverty and look up to co-ops for further growth. I agree with Amitbhai” said Sanghani, adding there is indeed a lot of work to be done by co-operatives.
