A multi-state credit cooperative in Uttar Pradesh allegedly used Bollywood actors’ names, including Shreyas Talpade and Alok Nath, to lure investors and later vanished with crores, media reports say. The name of the co-op society has not been disclosed.
An FIR has been filed in Hardoi’s Shahabad police station named 16 accused, including Talpade, under charges of cheating, fraud, and criminal intimidation. However, police said initial investigations show Talpade had no role; his name was misused to build trust.
The accused allegedly ran similar scams in Lucknow as well, falsely claiming celebrity endorsements to attract public investment.
