Co-op plays major role in fighting poverty: WB Minister

Speaking in a conference of West Bengal cooperative bank employees West Bengal cooperative minister Anup Roy said the state is in the first rank in the list in financing self-help groups in the country’s cooperative sector, reports The Statesman.

The minister said West Bengal has given credit to over 97,000 self-help groups during 2018-19 pushing Maharashtra to the second position.

Anup Roy added that cooperative banks in the state have played an important role in tackling the challenge of poverty and improving agriculture.

West Bengal has about 2.3 lakh self-help groups that receive financial loans from cooperative banks.
