Co-op election: When tantrums worked

In the absence of the Election Authority as envisaged in 97th Constitutional Amendment still pending in  court files, cooperative elections witness variety of dramas-one of which was to be seen in Tamil Nadu recently.

The president of a Cooperative Society in Tamil Nadu created a scene in front of the Taluk office going naked, reports Hindu.

He was protesting against the removal of his name and his wife’s name from the voter’s list released recently. It is quite a common practice as a pliable returning officer is mostly seen acting at the behest of power that be, said a cooperator.

He asked the revenue officials to explain why their names were removed. As a result of his tantrums he succeeded in having his name on the voter list, report the news paper.
