Co-op Banks in UP: Farmers’ accounts to be reactivated

After waiving the loans of 86 lakh farmers, the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh has promised to write off cooperative bank loans of more than 12.61 lakh farmers, amounting to Rs 1893 crore in order to offer them further encouragement, reports DNA.

Official sources say the state government has signed an agreement with cooperative banks to waive 12.61 lakh farmers’ loans and reactivate their bank accounts, which were earlier frozen due to loan default.

Fresh promises are being made to farmers with a view to preventing the loan waiver scheme from being viewed with suspicion after reports of refunds of as little as Rs 10 starting coming to light.
