Maharashtra State Co-operative Election Authority Commissioner Anil Kawade has said that elections of co-operative banks in the state will be conducted in accordance with the amended provisions of the Banking Regulation Act and the rules framed thereunder.
Speaking to Indian Cooperative over the phone, Kawade said that the election process will take into account the eligibility norms prescribed for board members under the revised banking regulations.
It is learnt that the eligibility conditions laid down in the amended rules will be applied during the scrutiny of nomination papers to ensure compliance with statutory requirements. Only candidates fulfilling the prescribed criteria will be allowed to contest the elections, he added.
The clarification comes in the backdrop of the Banking Regulation (Co-operative Societies) Amendment Rules, 2025, which introduce clearer provisions relating to director eligibility and governance standards in co-operative banks.
