A cooperative credit society at Karivellur near Payyannur has been allegedly defrauded of Rs2.98 crore through fake gold ornaments, reports Hindu.
The alleged cheating at the Social Workers’ Co-operative Welfare Society came to light during an inspection by officials of the Department of Co-operatives.
The police said society secretary was the kingpin of the racket and he was absconding.
