Co-op Bank, cash and elections in North-East

Despite cooperators resenting Income Tax dept singling out co-op banks for illegal cash-dealings, huge trench of cash is being seized by the IT from them. On Wednesday a total of Rs. 3.76 crore cash has been seized in various interceptions in Northeast.

Addressing a press conference in Guwahati IT officials said that huge amount of suspicious cash has been deposited in banks, including rural and cooperative banks in the weeks preceding announcement of elections.

Earlier, Rs. 1.80 crore had been seized in Pasighat in Arunachal Pradesh. Election Commission is keeping a close monitor on such seizers, said a source.
