CM inaugurates Surat’s Co-op Bank building

Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani inaugurated India’s first green district cooperative bank’s building  in Surat on Friday, reports Times of India.

The 109-year-old Surat district cooperative bank is the first among district banks in Gujarat and the country that has its headquarters having rooftop solar plant for generating 36 kilowatts of electricity for its in house needs. The bank’s new head office has been constructed at the cost of Rs. 34 crore.

The five-storey building has green patches for gardening at each of the floors. Each floor has the facility of toilets and reception, mineral RO plants for clean drinking water etc.

The new office has sensor system in place for the automatic on-off of the electric switches. All the offices, conference hall, toilets, cabins etc. have the sensor system where the lights will go off automatically after a couple of minutes in the absence of the staff and customers.

Talking to the news outlet, the bank’s chairman Naresh Patel said the bank has 86 branches and 52 ATMs. The bank has 8.25 lakh active accounts with a deposit of Rs 5,091 crore and the disbursement is worth Rs 2,043 crore. The net profit of the bank is Rs 13 crore with 0 per cent NPA.
