Clashes erupt during Murshidabad Co-op Polls

Tension gripped Daulatabad in Murshidabad during a cooperative election after violent clashes broke out between Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers and the Left-Congress alliance.

The election, held after five years by Calcutta High Court order, saw 42 candidates contesting. Violence began soon after voting started, with both sides alleging attacks.

Chairs and objects were vandalised, and police were allegedly assaulted while intervening. A large force, including the Rapid Action Force, conducted a lathi-charge to restore order.

Despite the unrest, the voting process continued without interruption throughout the day and Left-Congress alliance was declared winner.
