The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has fixed the maximum price of Sulphur Coated Urea at Rs 254 per 40 kg bag. The decision has been notified under the Fertiliser (Inorganic, Organic or Mixed) (Control) Order, 1985 and comes into effect from the date of issue of the order.
The fixed price will apply to sales made by dealers, manufacturers, importers and pool handling agencies to growers of tea, coffee and rubber plantations, as well as to other cultivators. The ministry stated that the price is meant to ensure availability of fertilisers at regulated rates for farmers.
The government has clarified that the maximum price is exclusive of Goods and Services Tax (GST) and other applicable central or local taxes, which may be charged separately wherever levied.
In case of sale of fertilisers in small packs, dealers are permitted to charge additional packing charges. These include Rs 1.50 for 2 kg packs, Rs 2.25 for 5 kg packs, Rs 3.50 for 10 kg packs and Rs 5.00 for 25 kg packs.
The notification has been issued by the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and signed by Franklin L. Khobung, Joint Secretary.
