Dr. P. S. Gahlaut, Managing Director of Indian Potash Limited, has termed the recent ceasefire as a timely and positive development, expressing optimism that it will significantly improve LNG availability from the Gulf and ensure uninterrupted fertiliser supplies ahead of the upcoming kharif sowing season.
Highlighting the critical role of natural gas as a primary feedstock in urea production, he noted that India’s heavy dependence on imported LNG makes global supply stability crucial for the domestic fertiliser sector. According to him, improved LNG availability following the ceasefire is expected to stabilise domestic urea production, reduce import-related cost pressures, and help curb speculative price increases in the market.
Dr. Gahlaut emphasised that Indian Potash Limited, as a key player in fertiliser distribution, is focused on strengthening supply preparedness through timely imports and efficient distribution networks across states. He added that the development would not only support farmers during the crucial sowing season but also bring relief on the government’s fertiliser subsidy burden.
The easing of geopolitical tensions, he said, is likely to enhance overall supply-chain confidence in the fertiliser sector, ensuring smoother operations and better price stability in the coming months.
