In a significant move to support arecanut farmers, the Central Arecanut and Cocoa Marketing and Processing Cooperative Ltd. (Campco) has announced plans to start in-house organic fertiliser production by acquiring 18 acres at Hiriyur, Chitradurga, media reports say.
Currently outsourcing production of organic manure under the Campco Aayush brand, this step aims to cut costs and improve input availability.
Additionally, Campco will launch a mobile app by March next year, providing farmers real-time commodity prices, stock market data, and transaction records, along with the ability to sell pledged arecanut at opportune times.
Other initiatives include expanding soil testing centres and enhancing pledge and loan facilities, benefiting farmers in Karnataka and Kerala.
