Union Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah announced during the ‘Sahkar Samvad’ event that the medicinal value of camel milk will be leveraged to secure better prices for camel rearers in Gujarat and Rajasthan.
Shah highlighted ongoing research into camel milk’s therapeutic properties and said that both state governments are jointly working on a scheme to promote its marketability.
The initiative aims not only to improve incomes for camel-herding communities but also to support the conservation of indigenous camel breeds, which are declining due to low economic returns. The Ministry plans to link camel milk cooperatives with scientific research and marketing platforms.
Shah emphasized that better pricing will naturally create incentives for camel care and breeding. The scheme is expected to roll out soon, combining cooperative frameworks with value addition in livestock-based livelihoods.
