BRS demands immediate Co-op Polls in Telangana
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

BRS leader and former minister S. Niranjan Reddy on Sunday demanded immediate elections to the managing committees of cooperative societies in Telangana, alleging that the Congress government was trying to avoid polls by appointing nominated boards, media reports point out.

He claimed the move stemmed from fear of a backlash from farmers and warned that dissolving elected bodies would be “completely undemocratic.”

Linking the issue to recent gram panchayat elections, Reddy said the ruling party was unsettled by rural poll results and was deliberately delaying cooperative elections.

He opposed any proposal to replace elected bodies in PACS and DCCBs with person-in-charge committees and urged the government to hold elections without delay, suggesting special officers only as a temporary arrangement.
