BJP wins Tripura PACS polls; CPI(M) cries foul
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has won all five seats of the Primary Agricultural Co-operative Society (PACS) run by Janamangal Co-operative Society in Padmabil, Panisagar, North Tripura, as no opposition candidates contested. However, the CPI(M) has strongly objected, alleging that the election process was kept hidden from the public.

CPI(M) leader Ajit Das claimed that, unlike previous years when the election schedule was finalized in a general body meeting, this time, only BJP leaders were aware of the process. The general public only learned about the election when BJP announced their unopposed victory and took out a celebratory rally.

The CPI(M) has lodged a complaint with the Assistant Registrar of Co-operatives in Panisagar, demanding the cancellation of the election and a fresh poll schedule. The party has accused the ruling BJP of “hijacking” the cooperative society and undermining democratic norms. Meanwhile, BJP has dismissed the allegations, maintaining that the election was conducted as per due process.
