Times of India reports the BJP has begun gaining ground in the cooperative sector in western Maharashtra by bagging eight seats on the board of a cooperative sugar factory in Kolhapur district.
Cooperative societies in Kolhapur district play an important role in influencing policies and administrative decisions in the cooperative sector in Western Maharashtra.
The BJP, majorly having presence in cities was trying to break the Congress-NCP stronghold over the rural cooperative sector in this part of the state. It is noteworthy that the party had no influenc cooperative sugar factories in Kolhapur.
