Some people working in the office of deputy registrar of cooperative societies in Balasore district in Odisha have come under CBI’s scrutiny for their involvement in Seashore Group chit fund scam. A CBI team recently went to Balasore to interrogate them, reports Times of India.
According to CBI, the Seashore Group collected Rs 80 crore from investors by floating dubious companies and promising big returns on their investments.
When the Seashore Group was violating the rules of the cooperatives societies act, the cooperative officials were closing their eyes to it.
Some political leaders also patronized the group and availed themselves of financial gains, CBI officials said. The investigative agency is probing the role of BJD’s Balasore MP Rabindra Jena in this connection.
