Bihar has launched vegetable exports through its new cooperative federation, VEGFED, modeled after COMFED.
Cooperative Minister Prem Kumar flagged off the first 1,500 kg consignment to Dubai’s LuLu Mall, with ten varieties including jackfruit, cauliflower, and eggplant.
Formed to promote vegetable farming via cooperatives in regions like Tirhut and Champaran, VEGFED promises farmers prices over 20 times higher than domestic rates.
The state plans 534 Tarkari retail outlets and has finalized plots for 200. A VEGFED committee will be formed in all blocks by month-end, advancing Bihar’s cooperative-driven export model.
