Bihar Cooperation Minister Pramod Kumar said the state government plans to revive old sugar mills and set up new ones under the “Saat Nischay” programme, with two mills proposed to be run by the Cooperative Department, media reports say.

Once approved by the Cabinet, the Sakri mill in Madhubani and the Raiyam mill in Darbhanga are likely to be transferred to the department. Preparations are underway, including forming cooperative committees and drafting project reports.

Kumar also highlighted paddy procurement by PACS, which has reached 9.53 lakh metric tonnes from 1.32 lakh farmers, with ?1,755 crore paid as MSP within 48 hours. A statewide PACS membership and awareness drive will begin on January 2.
