The Bihar government has directed banks, including cooperative banks, along the India–Nepal border to install note-sorting machines to curb counterfeit currency and financial fraud. The decision was taken at the State Level Coordination Committee meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Pratyaya Amrit.
Officials said the move will strengthen fake currency detection and enhance transparency in the functioning of cooperative banks. Enhanced border surveillance and more currency exchange centres have also been proposed.
The meeting reviewed enforcement of the BUDS Act, 2019 and BPID Act, 2002, with action initiated against erring entities. The Reserve Bank of India advised customers to verify bank communications, while authorities highlighted AI-based tools to detect fraud.
