Bihar: Paddy procurement to grow by double

Bihar government will procure a record 30 lakh tonne paddy from six lakh farmers during the 2017-18 harvest seasons, media reports claim.

CM Nitish Kumar has set the target for paddy procurement at 30 lakh tonnes up to March next year. During 2016-17, the paddy procurement stood at 18 lakh tonnes.

The government has decided to procure 200 quintals of paddy from each willing ‘ryoti’ farmer and 75 quintals from every non-ryoti farmer (sharecropper).

The chief minister has directed the cooperative department to get a formal directive in this regard.
