Bihar Co-ops send vegetables to international markets

Vegetables from Bihar have begun reaching global markets, with 1,500 kg recently sent to Lulu Mall in Dubai as a trial. Encouraged by its success, the cooperative department plans exports to Nepal and Singapore to boost farmers’ incomes, news outlets say.

Under the Tarkari brand, cooperatives supply fresh vegetables to cities at fair prices. So far, Harit, Tirhut, and Mithila unions have sold 1.04 lakh metric tonnes, generating Rs 178 crore. A Tarkari mobile app aids farmers in tracking orders.

Through the Bihar State Vegetable Processing and Marketing Scheme, over 49,000 farmers across 527 block-level societies are linked via Vegfed, gaining access to better markets, cold storage, and international trade opportunities.
