Ashish Kumar Bhutani, Secretary of the Ministry of Cooperation, chaired a review meeting to assess the progress of “Project Sahkar,” an initiative by the National Cooperative Export Limited (NCEL) recently. The project aims to develop a comprehensive business plan to achieve the ambitious export targets set by Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah.
The meeting was attended by Pankaj Kumar Bansal, Additional Secretary, and Dinesh Kumar Verma, Joint Secretary, along with senior officials from NCEL. They provided valuable inputs to further streamline and accelerate the implementation of Project Sahkar.
Earlier this month, Shah set an ambitious export target of Rs 2 lakh crore for NCEL and directed the exploration of exports for three new and specific products not currently being exported from India. He also suggested partnerships with major companies for exporting fresh vegetables to Gulf countries and special potato varieties.
In its first operational year (FY 2024–25), NCEL achieved a turnover of Rs 4,283 crore and a net profit of Rs 122 crore. The organization has expanded its exports to 28 countries and signed strategic agreements with 61 importers from countries including Senegal, Indonesia, and Nepal.
Project Sahkar is integral to realizing the vision of “Prosperity through Cooperation” and aims to empower cooperatives across India by enhancing their participation in global trade.
