Bhavnagar Co-ops face IT heat as notices cross Rs 150cr

Several cooperative societies in Gujarat’s Bhavnagar have reportedly come under the scanner of the Income Tax Department after notices involving claims exceeding Rs 150 crore were issued to multiple cooperative mandalis in the district, according to media reports.

The notices have sparked concern among cooperative leaders and office-bearers, who fear that the move could affect the smooth functioning of grassroots cooperative institutions and create financial uncertainty for members associated with them.

Sources indicate that the notices are linked to ongoing scrutiny over financial and taxation-related matters. In response, presidents and representatives of the affected cooperative societies are expected to submit a memorandum to authorities on Monday, demanding clarification and reconsideration of the action.

The development has attracted attention across Gujarat’s cooperative sector, particularly in Bhavnagar, where cooperative mandalis play an important role in agricultural trade, rural financing, and community-driven economic activities.
