The fifth session of Udaipur meeting was reviewed by Pankaj Kumar Bansal, Additional Secretary, and Raman Kumar, Joint Secretary. It bears recalling that a two-day national-level review meeting on major initiatives of the Ministry of Cooperation is underway in Udaipur, Rajasthan, with senior officials assessing progress and challenges in the cooperative banking sector.
The first part of the session focused on business diversification of District Central Cooperative Banks, State Cooperative Banks and Urban Cooperative Banks. Discussions covered balancing agricultural and non-agricultural loan portfolios and measures to revive declining ground-level credit in Regional Rural Cooperative Banks.
Emphasis was also laid on integrating modern technology through platforms such as Sahkar Sarathi and NUCFDC to improve efficiency and outreach.
NABARD made a detailed presentation, while states including Gujarat, Bihar, Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh, along with Tamil Nadu State Cooperative Bank, APCOB and NUCFDC, shared best practices and suggestions to strengthen systems.
The second part addressed regulatory and supervisory challenges, recurring defaults and effective compliance mechanisms, underscoring the need to build a stronger and more accountable cooperative banking framework.
