Indian Express reports with lakhs of milk farmers as its members, Banaskantha District Co-operative Milk Producers Union aka Banas Dairy is likely to play an important role in influencing the outcome of the upcoming parliamentary election in Banaskantha constituency of Gujarat.
The contest is between BJP’s Parbatbhai Patel and Congress’s Parthibhai Bhatol —both are associated with the dairy cooperative as directors.
While Congress’s candidate Bhatol, had been the chairman of the milk cooperative for 24 years his BJP opponent Patel, is a minister in the Rupani government of Gujarat.
However, informed sources say given the ” feel good factor” among milk farmers stimulated by their increased income in recent years and the Modi wave, the prospects of the Congress candidate winning are rated bleak.
